This research aims to examine and verify selected narrations concerning the mention of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in previous heavenly scriptures, as cited by Aḥmad Zaynī Daḥlān in his book Al-Sīrah al-Nabawiyyah wa al-Āthār al-Muḥammadiyyah. The study focuses on the takhrīj (source tracing) and critical analysis of these narrations through the methodology of hadith scholars by examining their chains of transmission and evaluating the reliability of narrators according to the principles of al-jarḥ waal-taʿdīl.
The research demonstrates that the narrations in this chapter vary in authenticity: some are ṣaḥīḥ (authentic), some ḥasan (sound), while others are weak or very weak. It also highlights the importance of applying hadith criticism to narrations found in works of sīrah and historical literature, particularly reports related to the People of the Book and the prophecies concerning the Prophet ﷺ in earlier scriptures.
The study adopts an analytical and descriptive methodology by collecting narrations from their original sources, including Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, Dalāʾil al-Nubuwwah, Ṭabaqāt Ibn Saʿd, and other hadith collections, followed by a detailed examination of their chains and texts.
The research concludes that the foundation of the mention of the Prophet ﷺ in previous scriptures is firmly established in the Qur’an and authentic Sunnah, while many transmitted reports in this field require careful verification and scholarly scrutiny.
