Abstract

This research paper explores the significant role played by Baghdad in the advancement of knowledge during the Islamic Golden Age, particularly under the Abbasid Caliphate. The study highlights the establishment and impact of major intellectual institutions such as the House of Wisdom (Bayt al-Hikmah), the Nizamiyya Madrasa, public and private libraries, mosques, and elementary schools (maktabs). These centers were instrumental in fostering a vibrant culture of learning, translation, and scientific inquiry. Baghdad served as a unique confluence where scholars of various faiths and disciplines collaborated in an environment of intellectual freedom and state patronage. This paper emphasizes Baghdad's contribution to the preservation, enhancement, and dissemination of knowledge, and its enduring legacy in the global history of education and science.
