This article presents a critical and analytical review of the book The Psychology of Mohammed written by Masud Ansari. The study aims to examine the psychological interpretations offered by the author regarding the personality, experiences, and leadership of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). By analyzing the arguments presented in the book, the article evaluates the methodological approach, historical references, and intellectual assumptions that form the basis of the author’s claims.
The research adopts a qualitative and analytical method, comparing the author’s psychological explanations with established historical sources, classical works of Sīrah (biography of the Prophet), and the perspectives of Muslim scholars. Particular attention is given to identifying the strengths and weaknesses of the author’s arguments, as well as the extent to which the psychological framework applied in the book corresponds with authentic historical evidence.
The study argues that while psychological analysis can sometimes provide insights into historical personalities, the interpretation of prophetic experiences requires careful consideration of religious, historical, and cultural contexts. Therefore, the article highlights the methodological limitations and potential biases present in the book. Ultimately, the research seeks to contribute to a balanced academic understanding of the subject by critically evaluating the claims of the book in the light of established scholarship.
