Abstract

Pakhtun Wali (پختون ولی) is the fundamental cultural code of the Pashtun society, which has shaped tribal life for centuries? It emphasizes principles such as honor, hospitality, asylum, loyalty, and revenge. On the other hand, Islam is a universal and comprehensive religion that stresses justice, mercy, equality, forgiveness, and piety. This study analyzes the harmony and conflicts between Pakhtun Wali (پختون ولی) and Islamic teachings. The findings reveal that certain values, such as hospitality and granting asylum, are in line with Islamic principles, while others, such as insistence on revenge and the limited role of women in society, appear to conflict with the Islamic ideals of justice, forgiveness, and equality. The analysis suggests that if Pakhtun Wali (پختون ولی) is reformed in the light of Islamic teachings, Pashtun society can not only achieve greater stability but also align its cultural values more closely with the universal message of Islam.
