The Role of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in Fostering Social Peace in Meccan Life

This article presents a brief academic study of the efforts made by the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) to establish and maintain peace during the Makkan period of his life. The Qur’an strongly condemns mischief and encourages peace, and the Prophet’s life is a practical example of these teachings. During the Makkan phase, the Prophet (ﷺ) faced severe persecution, physical and mental torture, and constant threats to his life. Despite such conditions, he remained fully committed to peaceful methods and never took any step that could lead to violence or social disorder. Unlike the Madinan period, where he had political authority, in Makkah he had no power or protection. Still, his peaceful attitude remained unchanged even when the opposition from the Quraysh became extremely harsh. He preferred to leave his homeland instead of responding with conflict or endangering his peaceful mission. This article highlights the Prophet’s (ﷺ) peaceful struggle during the Meccan era, including important events before and after the beginning of Prophethood, and aims to present it as a model of patience, peace, and nonviolent resistance.
