Abstract

This study, entitled Syntactic Anomalies in the Sacred Hadiths of Kanz al-Ummal by Al-Hindi: A Syntactic and Semantic Study, investigates structural modifications—such as ellipsis (omission), topicalization (fronting and shifting), enallage (grammatical shifting or Al-Iltifat), and particle expansion (pleonasm)—and their functional and semantic manifestations within the sacred traditions (Hadith Qudsi) compiled in the grand encyclopedic work of Al-Muttaqi al-Hindi, Kanz al-Ummal. The research demonstrates that these syntactic variations, which deviate from standard grammatical baselines (Al-Asl), are not mere stylistic or arbitrary alterations but are instead precise textual mechanisms dictated by the intricate demands of divine context and meaning. By subjecting these sacred narratives to close syntactic and semantic analysis, the study reveals how ellipsis serves to universalize theological mandates and encapsulate prose, while fronting and shifting (Al-Taqdim wa Al-Takheer) achieve restriction, emphasis, and immediate glorification of the Divine Essence. Furthermore, the paper illustrates how grammatical shifting (Al-Iltifat) dynamically disrupts rhetorical monotony to transition the recipient from general legislative frameworks to immediate divine proximity, working in tandem with particle expansion to establish absolute semantic exhaustiveness. Ultimately, the paper underscores the profound flexibility of Arabic syntax and bridges the gap between formal structural layout and semantic theological interpretation within a pivotal but understudied corpus of Islamic tradition.
