Abstract

Allah Almighty has mentioned various types of human food in the Holy Quran and has declared it as a manifestation of His blessings and power. Allah Almighty has placed in the earth the ability to produce food in abundance. Providing food to every individual is the moral responsibility of the state, individuals and society. The Prophetic teachings have mentioned the reward for growing crops and distribution of food. There are many reasons for food shortages, including lack of production, hoarding, artificial shortages, the effects of greed and environmental factors. The Prophetic teachings have also established a system of Zakat and Sadaqah for food management, as well as encouraging food distribution and prohibiting food waste and hoarding. Feeding food during festivals and social gatherings has been encouraged. The Prophetic teachings have encouraged the provision of food to the needy in various ways, by following which an important problem like food shortage can be dealt with.
