The Status of Tafseer "Al-Bahr Al-Muhit" By Abu Hayyan Al-Andalusi and its Literary and Linguistic Methodology

Abstract

This paper examines the status of Al-Baḥr al-Muḥīṭ, one of the most prominent classical Qur’anic commentaries authored by Abu Ḥayyān al-Andalusi (d.745 AH). The study explores the distinctive characteristics that granted this tafsir a significant position within the tradition of Qur’anic exegesis, particularly its strong linguistic orientation. It analyzes Abu Ḥayyān’s methodological approach in dealing with Arabic grammar, morphology, rhetoric, and Qur’anic readings, as well as his critical engagement with earlier exegetes Through analytical examination.
