Environmental Balance and Resource Conservation in the Light of the Sīrat al-Nabī ﷺ

Abstract

In the modern world, the concept of a global village has emerged, where rapid advancements in science and technology have greatly improved human life. However, these human activities have also led to dangerous impacts on the natural environment. Significant and harmful changes have occurred in the natural, chemical, and biological properties of air, water, and land, resulting in alarming increases in global temperatures and heightened environmental pollution. These environmental changes pose serious threats to human life, causing the loss of millions of lives and the extinction of various species of animals and plants. If this trend is not controlled, it is feared that many species may disappear permanently from the Earth. Consequently, environmental issues and their solutions are now regarded as the most critical challenge for human survival. The teachings of the Sīrat al-Nabī (PBUH) have encouraged Muslims to adopt values and practices that help preserve the environment from harmful effects and negative changes. In the light of the Prophet's (PBUH) guidance, environmental protection can be ensured, as his sayings and actions on environmental conservation hold the second-highest importance after the Quran. This abstract discusses the teachings of Sīrat al-Nabī (PBUH) that offer guiding principles for the protection and improvement of the environment.
